The Freestyle Libre App Gets A Refresh
Abbott's new app brings much needed upgrades like silence Low Alarms and control of all sensors under one umbrella.

Abbott has officially launched its brand-new app for the FreeStyle Libre continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) systems—and it's available right now in the U.S. for both iOS and Android users. This much-anticipated update brings some major upgrades for FreeStyle Libre 2 and Libre 3 CGMs, and it’s all packed into a single, streamlined experience. Let’s get into the latest upgrades.
Simpler Data Views
Abbott revamped how data is displayed. The new app layout helps users more easily track glucose patterns, making it easier to connect the dots between your food, exercise, insulin, and glucose trends. It’s designed to help users get the most out of their data without digging through complicated charts.
Silent Mode for Libre 3 Users
One of the most requested features—silent alarms—is finally here! Libre 3 and Libre 3 Plus users can now temporarily silence their alarms for up to 6 hours. Whether you're in a meeting, sleeping, or at the movies, you can now control when and how you’re alerted without removing your sensor or disabling your alerts entirely. This was a major feature request I pointed out in my review of the Libre 3.

Gradual Alarms
New gradual alarm options give users a more discreet way to be notified of high or low glucose events. Instead of a sudden, jarring sound, the app offers subtle alerts that still get your attention without making a scene. I’ve enquired with Abbott to get more info on how these work differently—stay tuned.
Automatic Glucose Streaming for Libre 2
This is a huge upgrade for FreeStyle Libre 2 users: the new app now automatically streams glucose data from the sensor to your smartphone. That’s right—no more scanning required. This feature was previously only available to Libre 3 users, and its addition to Libre 2 is a major quality-of-life improvement.
My Full Review of the FreeStyle Libre 3
Before this new app launched, I reviewed the FreeStyle Libre 3 CGM and shared my full experience—from setup to real-world use. One of my biggest critiques at the time? The inability to silence alarms.
Well, Abbott must have been listening because the app now allows for silence mode up to 6 hours! If you’ve been on the fence about Libre 3, my review gives you the deep dive, and now with this app, it’s even more compelling. I also have a video comparing Dexcom G7 to Libre 3 and you can watch that here.
Abbott Continues To Step Up Its Game
Between this powerful app update and the recent launch of the FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus, which now lasts up to 15 days, Abbott is clearly stepping up in the CGM space. And they’re not stopping there. The company is also collaborating with Medtronic to bring FreeStyle Libre sensors into Medtronic’s insulin delivery ecosystem—marking a major step toward interoperability and choice for people with diabetes. You can learn more about that in the video below.
